That same day, Beate Zschäpe asked the Jena lawyer L. whether he would represent her, and then presented herself, accompanied by him, at the police headquarters. She gave her name, but despite the international arrest warrant issued against her, it was only on the third attempt that the authorities there realised they had the wanted woman in front of them. From Jena she was initially transferred to Zwickau.
