In April 1999, the trio moved into a two-room apartment in Chemnitz at Wolgograder Allee 76. It was the last apartment in Chemnitz before they moved to Zwickau in 2000, as there were too many people in Chemnitz who knew about them.
The lease was signed by their longtime friend and supporter André E. André E. maintained close contact with Uwe Mundlos, Uwe Böhnhardt and Beate Zschäpe up until the trio's self-exposure. He was one of the main defendants in the NSU trial, charged with "aiding and abetting attempted murder, aggravated assault, robbery, and causing a serious explosion, as well as supporting a terrorist organization". In 2000, together with his twin brother Maik E., he founded the "Weiße Bruderschaft Erzgebirge" (White Brotherhood Erzgebirge, WBE). The support provided to the trio took many forms. When Zschäpe was summoned to a police station in 2006 to give a witness statement about a burglary in a neighboring apartment, André E. accompanied Zschäpe, who posed there as Susanne E. By presenting themselves as a married couple and using the alias identity, Zschäpe was not exposed.
