On the morning of 4 November 2011, at 9 a.m., Uwe Mundlos and Uwe Böhnhardt raided the Sparkasse bank at Nordplatz in Eisenach, armed. Through the threat and use of violence, they forced the safe open. They stole nearly €72,000 and fled. Three hours later they were found dead in their camper van, parked one kilometer away.
