+Ein Observationsteam des Verfassungsschutzes stellte am 25.11.1997 fest, dass Böhnhardt und Mundlos zuvor in einem Supermarkt gekauften Brennspiritus sowie Gummiringe von ihrem in Jena-Burgau abgestellten Fahrzeug über die Saale-Brücke zu der jenseitig gelegenen Garagen-Anlage „An der Kläranlage“ brachten, in einer Garage verschwanden, und nach kurzer Zeit zurückkehrten. Aufgrund dieser und weiterer Erkenntnisse beantragte die Staatsanwaltschaft Gera schließlich am 19.1.1998 beim Amtsgericht Jena einen Durchsuchungsbeschluss.

+On 25 November 1997, a surveillance team of the Office for the Protection of the Constitution observed that Böhnhardt and Mundlos carried denatured alcohol previously bought at a supermarket, as well as rubber rings, from their vehicle parked in Jena-Burgau across the Saale bridge to the garage complex "An der Kläranlage" on the other side, disappeared into a garage, and returned a short time later. On the basis of this and further findings, the Gera public prosecutor's office finally applied to the Jena district court on 19 January 1998 for a search warrant.
