On 11 November 1995, the Jena local editorial office of the Ostthüringer Zeitung, at Am Planetarium 8, received an anonymous letter. It contained a letter of confession from the perpetrators who had hung a doll's torso from a pipe bridge on Kahlaische Straße on 9 November 1995, together with a Polaroid photograph of the torso bearing a message composed of cut-out letters. It also contained a Polaroid photo of a slogan sprayed on a wall in the city: "Nationaler Widerstand" (National Resistance). During a search of Zschäpe's flat in 1996, a Polaroid camera and yellow spray paint were found — an important piece of evidence pointing to her authorship of the act. The letter was not published but handed over to the criminal police.
